Is HST applied to your cakes, ready-to-go items, and delivery fees?

HST on cakes

Whole cakes—whether custom-made or picked up from our display—are treated as “basic groceries” under Canada Revenue Agency rules, so they’re zero-rated for HST. The price you see for a cake is the final price; no provincial or federal sales tax is added.

HST on ready-to-go treats & delivery

Single-serve or individually priced desserts—pastries, cupcakes, brownies, puffs, dessert cups, cake pops, and the like—attract 13 % HST, as they fall into the “prepared food under $4 or sweetened baked goods sold by the piece” category. The same tax applies to any delivery or rush-service fee you choose at checkout, because the tax status of a service follows the item it’s tied to. If your order combines a zero-rated cake with taxable items, you’ll see HST calculated only on the ready-to-go portions and delivery line, keeping everything transparent and CRA-compliant.
